The 2014 League of Legends All-Star event aims to deliver high level international play and empower players from all over the world to influence the event in new and exciting ways. Taking place from May 8 to 11 at Le Zenith in Paris, France, the event will feature two new formats - the All-Star Invitational and All-Star Challenge. With these changes, players will get to see competition from both the top teams and their favorite pro-players from each region in four days of rapid-fire competition.
The All-Star Invitational
Serving as this year’s main event, the All-Star Invitational will bring together the regional winners of the NA LCS, EU LCS, LPL, GPL, and OGN Champions. These five teams will duke it out in group stage play, with the top four advancing to a best-of-three semifinal. The winners will meet in a best-of-five final to compete for the $50,000 winner-take-all prize.
The All-Star Challenge
At the beginning of each day of competition, players will be able to watch The All-Star Challenge, a series of games featuring two mixed region rosters. Fans will not only be able to elect two pros from their region to play in the Challenge event, they will also be able to cast their votes to influence aspects of the game modes that the pros play.
When deciding on the All-Star format, we wanted players from all over the World to be heard and have a voice in the events of the weekend. Pro Player Voting begins March 30 and ends April 12. Following the close of pro player voting we will open the challenge mode vote. Every week leading into the event players will be able to vote on an aspect of the modes that the Pros will play during the All-Star Challenge. Players may vote once for each mode.
For a Pro to be eligible for voting, they must be on an active roster of an LCS team at the time voting begins and must have played 15 or more games in their respective region by 3/26. Pro players competing in the All-Star Invitational will not be eligible for the All-Star Challenge.
Keeping pace with our commitment to the global LoL esports scene we have selected Paris as the home for this years event. The passion and dedication of the local fans should make for an amazing live event when All-Star 2014 kicks off. The event will be held at Le Zenth Theater and we are excited for the intense atmosphere that this intimate venue will create.

How do I vote for my favorite players?
Starting on March 30 and ending on April 12, we'll be providing a roster of eligible players and teams to choose from. Once per day you'll be able to vote for any three pro-players from any combination of teams to represent your region in the All-Star Challenge. We'll be announcing the results after the voting has closed and votes have been tallied.
What about voting for the Challenge game modes?
After the player results are tallied and teams are announced, we'll be revealing the first of several surprise Challenge game modes. Then, you'll have the opportunity to place your vote to influence some aspect of that mode. Each week after that leading up to the All-Star event, we'll reveal another surprise Challenge game mode. Fans will be able to cast their votes once again to influence these special matches. You may only cast one vote per week.
Keeping with our commitment to create a global scene for competitive League of Legends, we selected Paris for a few reasons. First off, French fans are great. They really showed their incredible passion and energy during our trip to Lille last year, and we wanted to host a major live event outside of the LA area. With Worlds in Korea this year, Hosting the event in Europe gives players form another part of the world to participate in a great event. . Add in France's easy accessibility and the iconic nature of Paris itself, and we felt this was just a perfect fit for the type of All-Star event we want to put on this year.
Why was Le Zenith Theater selected as the venue for the All-Star event?
We wanted to have a more intimate event where esports fans can be closer to the action. Le Zenith is a great venue for this. We're super excited to host a global event in such an intimate setting. We want live attendees and viewers to feel like they're right on top of the action.
What will be the start times for the All-Star Event?
Thursday is set to start at 15:00 Central European Time (6:00 AM PST) and Friday/Saturday/Sunday at 13:00 Central European Time (4:00 AM PST). We want to try to hit a good start time for each region but unfortunately due to global time zones, it’s hard to hit a good time for everyone. We will release a full schedule in the coming weeks. Why change the format from last year?
A wide-spread request we've heard is "we want more international competition." This is a tricky thing, because global events are not only logistically difficult, but it's really demanding on the teams that participate. All-Stars gave us the opportunity to explore expanding international competition between the pro leagues in a way that stays true to what All-Stars is about - celebrating the best in League of Legends (fans, pro players and teams). These are teams that have played together, speak the same language, and can really show off their best play each and every day.
That being said, we wanted to expand how players can influence the All-Star experience. That's where the Challenge comes in, which is a bit more lighthearted and takes advantage of the voting structure we built to let players influence the competition. Want to see one of the best mid's in the world play Heimer on the world stage? Want to see your dream international 1v1 happen? This is the sort of thing you'll probably never be able to see normally (and maybe never see again), and that's pretty awesome.
How can I participate?
Our goal with Challenge was to push the envelope with fan involvement to go beyond selecting who will be at the event but actually having a say in how the Challenge plays out. You guys will be able to influence things from which champs will be played to who will face off against each other.
How is the format for the All-Star Challenge going to work?
Fans will elect two pro players from each pro league to send to the All-Star Challenge, for a total of 10 pros participating in the event. They will be split into two teams with both teams having a pro from each league. Those teams compete each day in a unique game mode that should be fun to watch. What gets me excited about the Challenge is that we're cranking up the level that fans will get to participate. In the weeks leading up to All-Stars, fans'll get to influence the various game modes that the two Challenge teams will participate in.
Will the winning team earn an extra spot for Worlds?
Short answer - no, there will not be an extra Worlds spot granted to the region who wins. Long answer - we've stated earlier this year that we're going to tweak the Worlds' format. One change is that we're going to set the number of invites per region rather than have one spot be open for grabs. This allows us to set the number of invites and ensure that it's a balanced number that makes sense.
Can the top team from each region also have players participate in the All-Star Challenge?
We'll be limiting the top team participation to strictly the All-Star Invitational. We want to keep that tournament as competitive as possible by having invited teams focus completely on practicing for their Invitational matches.
How will roles work out for the All-Star Challenge?
The players in the Challenge will be able to determine their own positions for each day's event. We didn't want to limit players' votes based on positions for the Challenge, and given how multi-talented the world's top players are, the Challenge is an opportunity for something totally unique!
Why isn’t there an All-Star team for the Wild Cards?
While we love the International Wildcard regions (you'll be seeing a spot for them again at Worlds), we wanted this year's All-Stars to celebrate the pro leagues from around the world and the players that play in them.
Who will be the official shoutcasters for the event?
We haven't finalized the caster list yet, but you'll have a selection of casters from various languages similar to other major international events we've done in the past.
Is there any chance to see some French Casters?
There will be French Casters at the event casting to the live audience (and to viewers who are watching the French stream).
What language will the casting at the venue be in?
The current plan is to have the venue be French but we're exploring how we can accommodate fans who attend live but don't understand the language.
All-Star Rules - Introduction and Purpose
These Official Rules (“Rules”) of the 2014 Season All-Star Event (“ASE”) apply to each of the teams, who have qualified to play in the ASE in 2014, as well as their managers, coaches, players, and other employees. The ASE will be divided into two events: The All-Star Challenge and the All-Star Invitational. The All-Star Challenge will consist of two teams of players from five regions voted by the fans. The five regions include North America, Europe, China, Korea, and Southeast Asia. The All-Star Invitational will consist of the top team from each of the five regions (North America, Europe, China, Korea, and Southeast Asia). These Rules apply only to the 2014 Season All-Star Event not to other competitions, tournaments or organized play of League of Legends (“LoL” or the “game”). The teams in the All-Star Challenge are subject to all rules set forth except Sections 2, 3, 6, 7.6 and 7.7. The teams in the All-Star Invitational are subject to all the rules set forth.
League of Legends Championship Series LLC, a Delaware limited liability company, has established these Rules for the competitive play of LoL in order to unify and standardize the rules used in the ASE.
These Rules are designed solely to ensure the integrity of the system established by the ASE for professional play of LoL and a competitive balance among the teams that play at the professional level. Standardized rules benefit all parties who are involved in the professional play of LoL, including the teams, players and general managers.
These Rules do not restrict competition for players. The terms of engagement between players and teams are left to each of the teams and its players. The terms are to be set forth in written agreements between a team and each of its players known as the Player Agreement (“Player Agreement”).
